Attorney Stephen H. Poindexter is the founder of Poindexter Law Firm, PSC, a full-service law firm serving clients throughout Kentucky and Tennessee. With decades of experience in the legal system, law enforcement, and public service, Mr. Poindexter brings a practical, aggressive, and results-oriented approach to every case he handles.

While experienced in many areas of law, Mr. Poindexter focuses his practice on personal injury, bankruptcy, and Social Security disability matters. He understands the stress and uncertainty clients face after a serious accident, overwhelming financial difficulties, or disability, and he works tirelessly to protect their rights and pursue the best possible outcome.

Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Poindexter built an extensive background in law enforcement and public safety. He served as a narcotics detective with the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, a probation and parole officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and a police officer with the Franklin Police Department. He also served in the United States Coast Guard as an Electronics Technician and in the Kentucky Air National Guard as a Security Policeman. This unique experience gives him firsthand insight into investigations, courtroom procedure, and the criminal justice system from multiple perspectives.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/Criminology from Western Kentucky University, Mr. Poindexter obtained his Juris Doctor with a Litigation Concentration from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he was selected as the graduation valedictory speaker. He began his legal career with the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy and later served as a part-time attorney for the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office before founding his private practice in 2005.

Throughout his career, Mr. Poindexter has remained active in professional and civic organizations, including the Kentucky Bar Association, Kentucky Justice Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and numerous local community and charitable organizations. His commitment to service, combined with his extensive courtroom and investigative experience, has earned him a reputation as a dedicated advocate for individuals and families across the region.

Today, Mr. Poindexter continues to represent clients throughout the Dale Hollow Lake, Lake Cumberland, Green River Lake, and Barren River Lake regions, providing experienced legal representation with a personal commitment to every client he serves.
